Research shows that missing 10% of the school year — which can be just two or three days every month — can add up to so much lost time in the classroom that children just can't keep up. Attendance is critical to the success of our students.

Japan comes to Leading Creek Elementary
Masahiro Yamaguchi, a Japan Outreach Initiative Coordinator working through Glenville State College, visited Leading Creek Elementary on Nov. 15th. Mr. Yamaguchi will be visiting several times over the next two years to bring aspects of Japanese culture to our students. During this visit, he presented a video of a typical school day in Japan then challenged students to use chopsticks and make orgami.
Masahiro Yamaguchi demonstrates how to hold chopsticks. Peyton Butcher and McKenzie Wilson learn to use chopsticks.

Born Learning Academies - Leading Creek Elementary is engaging families of children birth-kindergarten to promote school readiness. Born Learning is a program that helps parents, grandparents, families and caregivers explore ways to turn everyday moments into fun LEARNING opportunities. Born Learning creates early learning experiences for young children. It is designed to support parents and families in their critical role as a child’s first teacher. Our goal is to prepare the parents and children for Kindergarten by providing information about what it means to be ready for school. The Born Learning Academies are funded through a grant from the United Way, The Education Alliance, and Toyota Corporation. Families participate in six sessions with topics ranging from health and nutrition to reading readiness. Each session consists of a family style dinner, parent training session and related parent/child activity. Parents and children go home with prizes and resources to help their child have a successful school experience.
During the Born Learning health and nutrition session, families learned how to engaged their young children in cooking activities while integrating math concepts such as counting, patterns, and sequencing.
