Career and Technical Education classes combine standard classroom teaching styles with projects based learning and hands-on skills.
Students can complete in Law & Public Safety through passing the 4 main classes:
Fundamentals of Public Safety Leadership
Ethical Issues in Public Safety
Practical Applications of Public Safety
Seminar in Law Enforcement
Simulated Workplace
The Simulated Work Place for this class does a variety of safety and security tasks during class. Students will perform security checks throughout the building by walking the halls looking for security issues, checking exterior doors for security, and walking around the exterior of building looking for possible safety issues.
Real Life Simulation
The Law and Public Safety program has a Police Simulator in the classroom. The Simulator is a real-life scenario program that enables students to actively participate in scenarios that represent real-life situations. The students will need to respond to the scenario, as if they were police officers, to handle each situation appropriately. This provides students the ability to experience real-life decision making.
Instructors
Mr. David Parks
A 1985 Graduate of Lewis County High School, who attended Glenville State College where he obtained his Bachelors of Science degree in Criminal Justice. He later attended the University of Cincinnati where he obtained his Masters Degree in Criminal Justice and Public Safety. He worked for the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office for over twenty years before retiring at the end of 2015.
During his career he had opportunities in specialized work such as working undercover, being a K-9 officer and retiring as a Lieutenant. He taught for Pierpont Career and Technical center as an adjunct professor for 9 years.
