  What is Title I & How Does it Work?

  • A federal government program that provides funding to Local Educational Agencies and Schools based on the number of low-income families.

  • The program provides high-quality education for ALL students and extra help for students needing additional reading and math help.

  • The Title I program serves students Pre-K through 5th grade.

  • Parents, teachers, administrators, and other school staff are all part of the Title I personnel included in decision-making for students needing additional support.

What Does Title I Provide?

  • The Title I program provides high quality instruction for ALL students and additional support in reading and math for identified students.

  • Parent Involvement activities and trainings

  • Additional teachers and materials

  • Professional development training for school staff

  • Opportunities for extended day and extended year programs

Parents Right to Know

  • ...to know the professional qualifications of their child's teacher(s) including the degrees and certifications held, and whether the

  • teacher is certified in his/her respective area of instruction.

  • ...to know the school improvement status of the school.

  • ...to know the level of achievement of their child in each area of the state assessment.

  • ...to know if their child has been assigned, or has been taught for at least four consecutive weeks, by a teacher who does not meet

  • the highly qualified definition.

  • ...to be involved in the planning and implementation of the parent involvement program in their school.

Federal Programs:

Title I:  Provides additional funding for instruction in reading and math for elementary students, professional development for teachers, and parent involvement activities for parents.

Title II:  Provides additional funding for professional development opportunities for teachers, principals, and school leaders.

Title III:  Provides funding to support the academic achievement of English Language Learners.

Title IV:  Funding for schools to provide students access to a well-rounded education, improve school conditions for school learning, and improve the use of technology and digital literacy.

Title V:  Provides additional funding to rural districts to assist them in assuring student success.

The scorecard results are updated annually reflecting multiple measures that show how well students are learning, growing, and achieving. The results outline accountability ratings for Harrison County as part of West Virginia’s School Accountability.
